PhD, Jobs & Internship opportunities:
We work with a very small team of people who have experience with, and are proficient with birds. My sincere apologies in advance if this limits your engagement with us at this time. Serious applicants are encouraged to come visit our lab, and discuss opportunities with us. When making contact with an email, please follow the guideline for emails here (courtesy of Vishu Guttal, CES, IISc).
Usually canned internship requests get a canned response.
If you are reading this, you are probably seriously interested in our research. Please do send an email that describes you well - we would like to get to know you!

Overall philosophy
Since we have a small, skilled team, we have a fairly non-hierarchical system. Robin follows a "coaching style" of mentorship (do look this up if you plan to join the lab), which relies on motivated, independent team members contributing to the larger team goals. We place a high value on abilities to work in teams (research these days is more a team-sport), and solo players hardly ever find a long-term place in the lab.

If you are interested in internships:
We accept only a very small number of interns from outside IISER Tirupati, based on motivation and experience of the students. This internship is for students to work with the field teams, assisting them in small projects. Often, but not always, there may be a small part of the project that students can take the lead on.
Interns will have to meet their own food expenses. If you have a skill that you think can be useful for the research we do, please do get in touch with us. Please apply here.

BS-MS students (Masters Thesis):
Each year there will be two/three (as per limit set by IISER-T) Masters theses project students accepted to the lab. Some requirements for qualifying for this are 1) completing all the core ecology-evolution courses, 2) Conducting at least one summer internship at the lab (or any of the other ecology labs across the country), 3) Semester research project (not mandatory, but will help sharpen skills).
If you are interested in doing a Masters (final year) project in the lab, please get in touch early, and chart out a trajectory that allows you to sample different aspects of ecological research. Inter-disciplinary strengths are welcome -Math/Physics/Chemistry/Earth Science
Please do talk to other BS-MS students who have done their projects in the lab to gain insights into the process, and their journeys.
It is highly unlikely that a student without the minimum training (#1, #2 above) is considered for a Masters thesis.
If students are interested in Ecology, but not necessarily the work in the lab or at IISER-T, please do get in touch, and we can discuss various possibilities.

PhD:
If you are interested in a PhD position in the lab, please do take a careful look at the directions of research in the lab - we are unlikely to expand on this.
Please also take a look at the profiles and CVs of existing PhD students - this should give a fair idea of the expectations in the lab.
Do write in, and plan a visit to meet us (Robin and other team members).
From 2021, it is preferable (but not mandatory) for students to have a CSIR-UGC fellowship. However, all applicants will need to have passed Gate Ecology. Please include these discussions in your mail.
