RESEARCH INTERESTS:
My love for nature and adventure started with participation in various youth organizations like Bharat Scouts & Guides, NCC, NSS etc. During my Forestry degree program, I visited many protected areas throughout the country which gave me a wide knowledge about different forest types and also about the kind of research works happening in the field. A postgraduate in Forestry, specialized in Natural Resources Management, I have done my masters research in 'Development and characterization of natural gum (Acacia nilotica) based nanocomposite' by being a project intern of IIUCNN Kottayam. This allowed me to explore nanotechnology in forestry research. Although my masters work was mostly lab related, I worked in an international level lab setup at Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. Meeting and interacting with Nobel Laureates, scientists and researchers from across the globe was an unforgettable experience. It helped me to broaden my thinking in various research fields. After my masters I wanted to get some field experience, especially with ecology. I got an opportunity to be an intern with Sky Island team to work for a month. That was an eye opener that escalated my interests in ecological research. Later, I joined as a project assistant at Kerala Forest Research Institute to work on a project for KFDC on restoration of Eucalyptus and Acacia plantations. There I could sharpen on my plant identification skills and also gave me field exposure. Currently, I’m working with Jobin Varughese in Sky Island project which involves Bird identification, vegetation sampling at various shola plots in different protected areas. My research interests are quite abstract at present as I'm curious and eager to learn more about ecological studies. I love identifying plants and birds and enjoy reading the related articles along the way. Projects involved: Sky Island Birds PERSONAL AND OTHER INTERESTS:
I love travelling, trekking and exploring new places especially forest areas. I'm also quite interested in geology which I am yet to learn and explore. I'm a horse rider and basically a Horseaddict and has participated in Republic Day camp at Delhi. I love and enjoy the time spend with horses. |
