SHOLA SKY ISLANDS

RESEARCH INTERESTS
My main interests revolve around avian behaviour and ecology with a specific focus on avian acoustics and communication. It is truly fascinating to delve into how birds communicate and interact with each other. My Master’s thesis focused on the differences in acoustic communication among Oriental Magpie-Robins in forested sites versus urban areas. A couple of studies suggests that birds modify certain aspects of their songs in response to anthropogenic and vehicular traffic noise. I’m passionate about this bird behaviour across diverse landscapes and exploring various facets of their communication.

Currently my work involves studying prevalence of avian malaria and cultural diversity of bird songs in Shola Sky Islands. I actively participate in the fieldwork, which  includes mist-netting and recording of bird songs, ringing of birds, along with collection of blood samples and biometric data. Additionally I plan to study acoustics of the birds present in the current study area by examining various features of avian songs via call and song recordings.

Projects Involved: Sholakili Song Diversity, Shola Bird Ecology
PERSONAL AND OTHER INTERESTS

When I'm not engrossed in research or work, I enjoy reading, watching movies, documentaries, and stand-up comedies. Sketching is another creative outlet I pursue. I also find solace in music and dance whenever I have spare time, and I even dabble in cooking while working. Traveling, trekking and celebrating festivals are other activities that pique my interest.
