RESEARCH INTERESTS:
I am majorly interested in the bioacoustics of avian species. A few questions fueling my research motivation include animal communication especially automated detection, individual acoustic distinctiveness, and song sharing in the bird populations. My current research interests were built through various internships and semester projects at IISER Tirupati as I explored various areas, including disease ecology and animal behavior. As a MITACS Globalink Research scholar at Lakehead University, Canada, I got to work on habitat selection of Canada warblers and species-specific vocal recognition of Black-capped Chickadees. My learnings from these internships and academic projects have finally built my interest in bioacoustics. For the longer term, I want to study what animals communicate and if any individual acoustic signatures can be understood for avian species on geographical or temporal scales. My current work as a part of a semester project involves assessing the BirdNET classifier model performance across varying parameters. I intend to use BirdNET to study the singing patterns and breeding phenology of White-bellied Sholakili ( Sholicola albiventris ) via their singing frequency. PERSONAL AND OTHER INTERESTS:
When not working, I can be hooked to the lens, capturing the wildlife and sometimes the street. I also play many outdoor sports, mainly Basketball and Badminton. I wouldn’t scout myself as a great Picasso fan, but I enjoy painting freehand and freestyle art. Apart from these, I also like to pen down some Hindi poetry.
