Assess woodland structure with LiDAR

  • Expertise in conducting pre-and post activity (restoration/removal) surveys of vegetation. These include habitat restoration monitoring, or simply assessing current stands of plantations. We use an array of methods including traditional sampling protocols along with photogrammetric and LiDAR tools. Our LiDAR protocols permit us to conduct rapid assessments with high quality data in a very short time. The metrics provided are a video of the 3-D structure of the site, georeferences data,  GBH, tree height, tree location and canopy cover metrics. We use a hand-held GeoSlam model.

  • Some of the assessments we have conducted are:
  1. Restoration monitoring: five forest divisions of Tamil Nadu
  2. Monitoring invasive species: five forest divisions of Tamil Nadu
  3. Monitoring plantations: two forest divisions of Tamil Nadu

  • An example of our LiDAR survey is here <Link>

  • The LiDAR itself can be rented out through the IISER portal <Link> without utilising our lab’s expertise. However, our lab can also provide scanning, analyses, its interpretation and reporting as an end-to-end service.
